I am a Christian and I have a strong faith in God. I grew up in the church and my parents raised me in a Christian home. I am also a musician. My passion is music but doing it for God's glory. In church I play the drums and sometimes the keyboard. I am also a rapper and I do Christian Hip Hop.
Christian Hip Hop seems to be a controversial topic within the church. I love it and it is my passion. I think it is a good way to reach to younger generations when approaching them about religion and God. Through Christian Hip Hop, young people can see that there is Christian music that they can relate to and actually like. There are really nice Christian rappers that have been compared to artists such as Jay-Z. Grammy Award Winning Christian Rapper, Da'. T.R.U.T.H. is one fo them.
A lot of young people are not exposed to Christian Hip Hop but I want to help get it more recognition because it is just as big as the "secular" Hip Hop music business; it just doesn't get as much publicity and air time. I want people to see that being young and a Christian is really fun.
What do you guys think of Christian Hip Hop?
Have you been exposed to Christian Hip Hop before?
Would you try out Christian Hip Hop?

ReplyDeleteWell being a fellow Christian rapper I'm definitely down with it!!!! Now a-days young kids an Teens are looking for more than a preached word. They are looking for FLAVOR!!! Spunk inspiration. Most of the time it isn't going to come from a Sunday sermon that Pastor may preach. Everyone wants to be a Trend setter. I'm trying to an will become a Trend setter for Christ.. So I would definitely keep the FIRE burning for Christian Hip Hop!!!!!!!

I think if it is done with a pure motive than it can be effective. But if the goal is to become a big time rapper with all the luxuries that they have in the world then it's wack. It is great to bridge the gap between the generations and to bring souls to christ but the motive has to be pure. When Igo out to christian cafes and services for the youth they usually have christian rappers. I enjoy it sometimes. I am open to listen to christian hip hop but would I try to do it ? LOL Probably not! I can't rap! LOL
ReplyDeleteWell you already know I'm a Christian rap fan. I introduced you to a whole slew of people after I found out about them. With that said, I think Christian hip-hop/rap (CHH) is a viable tool that can be used to further reveal God's glory and teach people about God, Christian values, etc. since a lot of the songs are like sermonettes. But we have to be careful to put it in its proper place. There should be balance: It's just a means and the means shouldn't be exalted above who we're promoting. This mode of transporting the Gospel shouldn't be used as a gimmick to reel people in because at the end of the day it's not what's going keep them. It's just an addendum to whatever God wants to do. People want something that they can relate to but at the same time you have to be careful about packaging God into a box and marketing Him as "cool" or "fun" -- He's bigger than those definitions.
